Charlie’s eZ Secrets

Design

I have started the design process with bubble diagrams since architecture school. This is the method of arranging scaled, colored paper cut-outs to represent programmed spaces. I have found this method the most effective for exploring all of the design possibilities quickly. Now I use eZ and ARRIS to mimic the same methodology.
With eZ, I can make the shapes opaque or transparent, and resize these shapes at will. Click and drag the shapes to a new location. Add text in any font or color. Save any variation or rendition of my bubble diagrams. I create a series of bubble diagrams and save them in one, eZ compound file for future review and collaboration.

Design Development

In our process, once a design direction is chosen, we move onto the design development stage where our ideas are given more definition. In this stage the simple electronic bubble diagrams evolve into a more precise and concrete solution. With eZ, we can quickly sketch and markup on everything from simple line drawings to complex 3D models.
Our entire team has realized a tremendous productivity boost from our new methods. The ability to combine multiple types of information into simple eZ compound files has opened up new possibilities for exploring and sharing our design ideas and solutions.

Our new process allows for better and more frequent communication between client, architect and project manager. We avoid costly errors and make better decisions. Everyone is more involved and always on the same page during every critical stage in the design’s formation.
